Averted! is Disaster Simulation Game developed for Newcastle University, School of Engineering
The Brief
Newcastle University’s School of Engineering wanted to develop an educational game that could be used by schools with the aim of encouraging students’ interest in engineering.
The Solution
We worked on an agile basis in a series of sprints with the Newcastle University Academic Team from the School of Engineering to develop a native tablet game on Android.
The game starts with a flooding disaster theme but has the potential to move into various other real-world disaster scenarios – such as fires and power outages, as well as educational it needed to be fun, and avoid negative implications or panic-inducing language that can be associated with such events.
We collaborated with Layers Studio as our design, brand, and illustration partner who developed a colourful and entertaining aesthetic.
We built the Native Android app in Kotlin, also using CircleCI for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) to Google Play Beta channel for Android.
